Schooling and childcare in Turin

The national window

Italian school enrolment is a single fixed window, not a rolling process, and for 2026/27 it ran from 13 January to 14 February 2026, later extended to 20:00 on 21 February 2026. That one window covered scuola dell'infanzia and both the first and second cycles, which is nursery through upper secondary all at once, but only the two cycles are enrolled online, through the ministry's Unica platform at unica.istruzione.gov.it. For a state scuola dell'infanzia there is no online enrolment at all: the application is made directly at the office of the school you have chosen. As of September 2026 no dates had been published for 2027/28, so watch the Ufficio Scolastico Regionale per il Piemonte at istruzionepiemonte.it rather than assuming last year's dates repeat.

Turin's municipal infant schools

The Comune runs its own application for the municipal scuole dell'infanzia, ages three to six, and for 2026/27 it was open from 08:00 on 13 January 2026 to 20:00 on 21 February 2026, online only with SPID or CIE. It covered children born in 2021, 2022 or 2023, or between 1 January and 30 April 2024, with an earlier cut-off of 31 March 2024 for the municipal schools themselves. You list up to six schools in order of preference, at least three if you are claiming a priority condition such as disability, and applying early confers no advantage in the ranking. The provisional ranking was published on 12 March 2026 and the final one, with places assigned, on 9 April 2026, after which a family confirms an assigned place by 23:59 on the Tuesday following the assignment.

• You need SPID or CIE, an Italian mobile number, and, if you are not resident in Turin, the tax codes and personal details of every household member.
• Evidence for disability, health or pregnancy claims is uploaded as PDF.
• Late applications, from 22 February to 18 December 2026, went to the end of the waiting list and were processed in batches.

The nidi run on a later calendar

Municipal and convenzionato nidi, for children from three months to three years, had a separate window for 2026/27: 08:00 on 5 March 2026 to 16:00 on 16 April 2026, for children born between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026. Applications are online only with SPID or CIE, list up to ten nurseries, and require the child's ISEE value and the validity date of the ISEE attestation, so get the ISEE calculated before the window opens. The provisional ranking came on 5 May 2026 and the final one on 26 May 2026, after which places were assigned weekly every Tuesday and notified through the municipal website, the IO app and SMS. Late applications ran from 17 April 2026 to 18 February 2027 and went to the end of the list.

What it costs

Applying to a Turin municipal nido or scuola dell'infanzia is free. The monthly fee is then calculated from the family's ISEE and paid through the Borsellino Elettronico. Convenzionato places at partner private nurseries are charged under their own separate agreements, so ask the individual nursery rather than assuming the municipal scale.

Schooling in English

The International School of Turin is an independent IB World School teaching in English for ages three to eighteen, Nursery to Grade 12, running the full IB continuum: the Primary Years Programme from Early Years up, then the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme. It is not in the city, and the campus is at Strada Pecetto 34 in Chieri, south-east of Turin, so a daily commute or the school bus is part of the decision. Admissions run through OpenApply at isturin.openapply.com with no published deadline, and candidates for grades 6 to 12 sit placement examinations in English and mathematics. The school states a priority order of international English-speaking candidates, then international non-English speakers, then siblings of enrolled students.

• Tuition for 2026-2027: €8,500 Nursery, €9,300 Pre-Nursery, €9,000 Pre-Kindergarten, €10,400 Kindergarten, €13,400 grades 1 to 5, €16,600 grades 6 to 8, €16,700 grades 9 and 10, and €19,200 grades 11 and 12.
• A non-refundable registration fee of €3,300 applies to a new student applying by 31 January and €3,800 from 1 February. Tuition is then paid in three instalments — 50 per cent by 15 September, 40 per cent by 15 January, 10 per cent by 15 April.
